About Yogi Bhajan.
Invited to visit Los Angeles for a weekend, he discovered there the souls whose aspiration and longing had drawn him to the West. He gave his first public lecture in the United States on January 5, 1969, at the East West Cultural Center where he stated his firm conviction that it is the birthright of every human being to be “Healthy, Happy, and Holy.” The young people he met wanted to experience God. Unfortunately, many had been using drugs to alter consciousness. Despite the centuries old taboo against teaching Kundalini Yoga publicly, the Yogi knew that it was the most effective technology he could share with them to heal their bodies and their minds, and give them a valid experience. They could get “high” without side effects, and it was legal! Their souls were hungry to be awakened.
He told them he hadn’t come to gather students; he had come to train teachers. In his Kundalini Yoga classes he told inspiring stories about the Sikh Gurus, he talked about the virtues and values that would bring happiness. He made people laugh, never criticized anyone, and though he told them, “Don’t love me, love my teachings,” he touched the hearts of every seeker. A master of communication, whenever he spoke, each person felt he was talking directly to him or her. His words sank in.
What brought us all together?
A love of the experience the magic and reality that Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan gives. We really had no idea how this studio was going to manifest, we just knew we wanted it to. Sometimes when you are going through something really big like feeling a potential loss of a community that had been built, the heavens open up and miracles manifest. Due to the unstoppable intentions we all had, this studio rose up like a phoenix from the ashes. We look everyday at what we can learn, who we can include, what teachings and offerings we can give our community because we don't claim this project as ours. We wanted to create a home where Everyone, all ages and stages, could come to practice a conscious, uplifting lifestyle in a loving a sacred space as was Yogi Bhajan's intention in the 1960s. Who are we? A longtime Beverly Hills psychotherapist and lead Kundalini Yoga teacher and mother, a disciplined and devoted yogi and teacher/ brave and brazen Italian-Swede world traveler and mother of three, and a sincere, kind, creative, driven and popular rock star with a big heart. The most unlikely group gathered around the same intention at a given moment in time for this divine manifestation. Even in what many consider an idealic city where the sand meets the shore, where the air is clean and and the breeze brushes your face, where the the hustle and bustle of the many beach goers and tourists from different places all over the world, this studio, is a restorative haven for all in these tumultuous times. This is a seaside family space that will carry and evoke the experience of your spiritual identity and link to the infinite. Thanks to our teacher who in his idealic fashion came to the west in the sixties and offered action steps and the technology for a Happy, Healthy, and Holy lifestyle. We are All Whole and a Part of the Whole, We are All One.
